Dr. Nikola Marangunić earned his PhD in Psychology from the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zagreb, with a thesis titled ‘Age-Related Cognitive and Metacognitive Aspects of Motivational Processes for Acceptance and Usage of New Technologies.’ He served as the Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty from 2018 to 2022. His scientific interests include educational psychology, cognitive psychology, and human-computer interaction.

Presentation Topic: Language Across the Curriculum (LAC): Perspectives from Neuroscience and supporting evidence from research

Dr. Edward Y.W. Chu is Programme Leader of the Full-time Programme BEd(Hons)&BEngLang(Hons) in the School of Education and Languages at Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). He coordinates and teaches a number of teacher education courses and English proficiency courses.

Prior to serving at tertiary institution, he was Prefect of Studies and headed the English Department of a local secondary school. With the financial subsidy amounting to HKD850,000.00 (USD 108,000.00 equivalent) through Education Bureau’s Refined English Language Enhancement Scheme (REES), he spearheaded a number of initiatives promoting English language learning with a special focus on Language Across the Curriculum (LAC).

Edward’s research interests include CLIL/CBI and language-in-education policy. After joining HKMU, he continues to lead several Education Bureau-commissioned teacher-training programmes, an example of which is ‘Enhancing English Writing Skills through Language Across the Curriculum (LAC) in the subject ‘Life and Society’’.

Dr. Bhagya Prabhashini. C is working for Jazan University as an English faculty at Farasan University College, KSA. Her Ph.D. is in the field of Applied Linguistics. She has 23 years of experience in teaching English in India, Eretria, and Saudi Arabia. Her initial accomplishment was being the first Online IELTS Trainer from South India in 2007. She has 6 research papers to her credit. Her research areas of interest are TELL, Research Methodology, Eco-linguistics, Psycholinguistics, Neurolinguistics, and Sociolinguistics. She has expertise in using several virtual platforms such as Wiziq, 2tion board, Eluminate, JUMP, JUSER, Blackboard, Zoom, Jamboard, etc. She worked in various positions at the workplace and currently leading two teams, Exams & Schedules and Quality for the program accreditation.

Dr. Andrea-Beata Jelić

Andrea-Beata Jelić is an Assistant Professor at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Croatia. She holds a PhD in applied linguistics. She teachers graduate courses in SLA, methodology of teaching foreign languages and language assessment. Her main research interests include teaching and learning Spanish and French as a foreign language, multilingualism, individual differences and young learners.

Dr. Flavia Iuspa is an Associate Teaching Professor at the School of Education and Human Development, specializing in the internationalization of higher education, politics of curriculum, and global learning. She has worked on international projects in countries like Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Italy, and Jamaica. Dr. Iuspa is an active presenter at AAC&U, CIES, and The Future of Education conferences on topics such as study abroad programs and global issues in education. Dr. Iuspa has received the 2019 FIU Faculty Senate award for Excellence in Teaching and the 2019 Faculty Choice Award for Excellence in Learner Engagement from FIU Online.

Currently is the Director of the Doctorate in Education at Antonio Nariño University, in Bogotá, Colombia.

Athifah Utami Edysuyanto

Ms. Athifah Utami Edysuyanto

Athifah is a PhD fellow for the Doctoral Programme in Education and ICT (e-Learning) at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), Spain. She has been conducting research and preparing projects on inclusive pedagogy, the use of technology in a classroom and related issues in education and learning media. She is an alumna and a scholarship awardee of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master – Play, Education, Toys, and Languages – PETaL. Her current presentation will be about an e-learning community platform (Eudemy.id) that she and her colleague established with the support and funding of the European Union and Erasmus+ Student and Alumni Association (ESAA).

Laura Evangelista National Coordinator of the EQAVET National Reference Point for Italy. Senior researcher at INAPP (National Institute for the Analysis of Public Policies), Head of the Research Group “Accreditation and Quality for VET”. She coordinates research projects related to the monitoring and the evaluation of the accreditation systems of VET providers in Italy, the implementation of quality arrangements in line with the principles and indicators defined at EU level, the experimentation of the Peer Review at provider and system level and the dissemination of results through seminars, conferences and publications.

Leani Van Niekerk, an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, with 14 years of experience in academia. At the University of the Free State, Faculty of Law, she specializes in teaching Introduction to Law and Legal Skills. Possessing two master’s degrees in Mercantile Law and Higher Education, her current focus is on her Ph.D. in Private Law, focusing on social justice in legal education.

Concetta Fonzo is a Deputy Coordinator of the Italian EQAVET National Reference Point and ReferNet Italy. She is a research staff of INAPP’s research group “Accreditation and Quality for training” and National Operational Programmes funded by the ESF and a member of scientific and technical Committees and Boards for EU initiatives and networks (e.g., EQAVET, ReferNet, CareersNet). Furthermore, she is an expert in EU project management, contributing to national and international researches and projects.

Serafeim A. Triantafyllou has worked as a Computer Science Teacher in schools of Primary and Secondary Education of the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. He holds a BSc in Applied Informatics, an MSc degree in Continuing Education and a Master Degree of Education in Special Education. He taught in School of Pedagogical and Technological Education (ASPETE), Annex of Thessaloniki (Greece) for the academic years 2017-2019 and 2022-2023 respectively. Dr. Tanya Manning-Lewis

Dr. Tanya Manning-Lewis has served the education sector for over 19 years as a secondary school teacher, teacher educator, community-engaged researcher and advocate for vulnerable populations in local, multicultural and international contexts. Her research interests include equity, diversity and inclusion in educational settings, intersectionalities of gender, race, class and Caribbean identity, second language acquisition, 21st-century literacies and women in higher education. She is a social justice educator whose practice is grounded in compassion and the ethic of care. Through her work, she continuously seeks more pathways to critically and authentically engage educators in a deeper understanding of the intersectionalities of race, gender and class in education through multimodal and multi-literate lenses.

Dr. Chris Perumalla

Dr. Perumalla has taught Human Physiology at the University of Toronto for the past 30 years. He has received several awards for Excellence in Teaching and Strategic Leadership including the President’s Teaching and Leadership Award. He has also been instrumental in developing and delivering an online physiology course which has a global learner for the past 15 years. He is passionate about coaching students achieve their goals – either in pursuing a career in professional health sciences or using their strengths and skills in pursuing a meaningful and satisfying career. Dr. Budsaba Kanoksilapatham received her Ph.D. from Georgetown University in the United States. She is currently a full-time English professor at Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Management Science. She also graces the role of an associate fellow at the prestigious Academy of Arts, Royal Society of Thailand. Her exemplary achievements have garnered her esteemed accolades including “Distinguished Researcher of Silpakorn University” and “TRF Senior Research Scholar in English,” both of which were graciously bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chaksri Sirindhorn.

Alenka Trpin studied mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics in Ljubljana. She is currently a professor of mathematics and computer science at the Secondary School of Mechanical Engineering in Škofja Loka. Her research interests include the use of ICT in mathematics education, supporting students with learning difficulties and working with gifted students. She also researches the use of mathematics in data mining and artificial intelligence.
